Spay And Neuter Quiz
How can you help?

For more information about the SANS clinic and how it will solve the pet overpopulation problem, call us at (315) 422-7970, or email at spayneuter@verizon.net or write to us at 1108 Spring Street, Syracuse, New York 13208.
Got stray or feral cats?
The best way to handle the problem is to feed them, trap them in a humane trap, have them spayed or neutered, and put them back where they came from. This is called TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and it works much better than ignoring them. A single female cat can have 10-12 kittens a year and the kittens can have kittens as young as 6 months of age.
Removal doesn't work either. More cats will just move in, and a colony of cats that are sterilized and fed will tend to keep newcomers out.

Our schedule changes monthly, but we hold about 10-12 clinics a month both on weekdays and on weekends. Registration is required
in advance. Animals are dropped off at SANS in the morning and are usually discharged on the same day.
We ask owners or caretakers to fill out a brief form with contact information and information on the animal, and sign a medical
release form. Animals may be picked up after they are fully recovered. Special arrangements can be made if needed. Post-op instructions
are provided at the time of pick-up.
Neutering: Neutering is the surgical proecure performed on male
cats and dogs. General anesthesia is used and no sutures are used on male cats.
Spaying: Spaying is also known as an ovariohysterectomy. It is the procedure performed on female cats and dogs. General anesthesia
is used. We use sutures which dissolve, so no return visit is required for removal of the stitches. However, owners and caretakers are instructed to monitor the incision sites daily for at least a week post surgery.
Dogs and cats are anesthetized for both of these procedures. Pain medication is provided as part of our standard anesthetic protocol.
The surgeries are performed by a skilled veterinarian and assisted
by a licensed veterinary technician. Animals are closely monitored
after surgery by our trained staff.
All procedures are done at cost for non-profit shelters, rescue groups, caretakers of feral cats and persons of low income who meet certain means tests (Medicaid, SSI, HEAP, or other public assistance). The cost for spaying and neutering are package prices which include surgery, vaccinations for rabies and distemper, and a one time treatment for fleas.
These are the projected costs for spaying and neutering services.
